St. Pedro: The Most Obedient

Obedience rather than Sacrifice

“A Christian faithful”, says St. Bernard of Clairvaux, “knows not delay, but prepares his ear for hearing and his hands and feet for labor.” Saint Pedro, a very faithful Christian, filled the missionary needs through his obedience to the tasks and obligations Blessed Diego gave him. “Obedience makes miracles”, as what many says, and St. Pedro openly gave witness to this because his constancy in obedience made the greatest miracle– obedience until death.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina said “Obedience is mission” for it need one’s docility in doing the mission God has given us. The missionary zeal St. Pedro obtained came from his obedience to the errands entrusted to him and deep spirituality. With love and devotion, he is “stubborn in doing good” lovingly follow the commands even though it seems hard and difficult putting into mind the words of St. John Climacus saying “He who follows his own ideas in opposition to the direction of his superiors needs no devil to tempt him, for he is a devil to himself.”

May we imitate the virtue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary who was so blind in Her obedience to the Will of the Creator thus allowing God’s plan to be fulfilled in Herself, “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done upon me according to your word”. The obedience of Our Blessed Mother, the Lady of Grace and marvelous Obedience altered the history of mankind from darkness to light and from sin to grace.

Help us O most obedient St. Pedro Calungsod that we may be like you docile doing God’s Will, obediently accepting everything even death for St. Therese said, “Everything is grace”.

Ave Maria!
