Saint Pedro, pray for us!

The psalmist says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!” Today the local church of Cebu has a reason for rejoicing because she celebrates the National Thanksgiving Mass for the Canonization of our dearly beloved Saint Pedro Calungsod, a young lad from the Visayas elevated to the altar of the Lord. Saint Pedro’s heroism and bravery that was unknown to us for many centuries were “brought to the light” to be a paradigm for us to truly love the Lord until the end even if this cause much of our life. “This is the day that the Lord has made” for us to rejoice because our brother in the Faith had champion over trials and tribulations, successfully triumphed over the sting of death and won battle over sin and evil through the help of Jesus and Mary, the models of his life. Saint Pedro’s life was short but lived to the fullest was an excellent example for us to follow, for in the spiritual life age doesn’t matter, whats matters most is how we are united to God’s Holy Will. May the Immaculate Virgin Mary inspires us the more to live our faith, to proclaim it and even to die for it. As we unite ourselves to the Blessed Mother’s maternal care may we be molded truly to become holy but far from that to be Saints. St. Bonaventure said, “He who plants his roots in Mary becomes holy”. Holiness is the name of the game and we need Our Lady to be our “Mother and Teacher” (Mater et Magistra) to win the game. May St. Pedro Calungsod in this National Thanksgiving Day in his honor give us the grace we need in the state of life we are in to remain faithful to God’s commandments. St. Pedro Calungsod, Patron of the Youth, pray for us! Ave Maria! +
